Robert (Bob) Di Silvio
Chief Executive Officer

Bob Di Silvio is an executive leader, analyst, and strategist who has spent the last twenty-five years working with well-known medical device companies in key positions.

Bob previously served in a variety of senior executive positions including Vice President & General Manager with Safe Life Corp, which develops, manufactures and markets Triosyn™, an antimicrobial agent used in a wide range of applications. In this role, Bob was responsible for all revenue generated from commercialized product sales, pursuing and negotiating worldwide sales and distributorship contracts as well as facilitating the highest quality of product and customer service to ensure efficiency and maximum profit.

Bob has served as Vice President of US Field Operations for the Physio-Control division of Medtronic, the leading manufacturer of implantable biomedical devices. He had been responsible for various departments throughout his five-year tenure at Medtronic. Previously, Bob was Executive Vice President, The Americas, for Lumenis, Inc (formerly the Coherent Medical Group).

Bob holds a Masters in Biochemistry and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Organic Chemistry from the University of Connecticut. Bob also completed three years at the University of Rome School of Medicine.

Nadine Gaston
Vice President, US Sales

Nadine Gaston brings more than fifteen years of industry experience as an award-winning sales and marketing executive in the US healthcare industry. Working in collaboration with VP, International Sales and Global Marketing and the rest of the Pyng Management Team, Nadine leads the development and implementation of the Company’s strategic sales plan focused exclusively on growing market share in the US hospital, pre-hospital and military markets.

Prior to joining Pyng, Nadine excelled in a variety of increasingly senior positions through 10 years at Physio-Control Inc., a division of Medtronic Inc. based in Redmond, WA, including Sales Manager – West, Director of Market Development, and Senior Marketing Manager. Nadine previously served four years as the Sales & Marketing Director for Stryker Physiotherapy Associates where she developed, launched and led a national sales and marketing team. In addition, she was awarded Director of the Year for developing and implementing an innovative and effective sales program company wide.

Nadine earned a B.A. in Marketing from Seattle Pacific University and attended the Medtronic Marketing Executive MBA Program, Wharton Business School.

George Dorin
Chief Financial Officer

George Dorin has 30 years of broad-based financial experience, including 15 years as a VP Finance or CFO for several private and public companies. George holds undergraduate degrees in Science and Accounting from the University of BC, a Masters Degree in Finance from the London School of Economics in England, and the Diploma FCSI, Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute. A Chartered Accountant, he was also recently granted a CF (Corporate Finance) specialist designation from the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

As a CFO, George had been involved in a number of corporate finance transactions, assisting companies with new private placements of debt and equity, debt refinancing, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, and helping companies to go public. He has also assisted companies with strategic and business planning, financial management, regulatory reporting, investor relations and corporate development. Prior to his work in industry, George worked in the financial services sector as a Senior Accountant with Ernst & Whinney (now part of KPMG), as a Manager in the Corporate Finance Group at Price Waterhouse, as an Assistant Manager at the Royal Bank of Canada, and as an Investment Advisor with Pemberton Securities (now part of RBC Dominion Securities). Most recently he has been providing financial management advisory and corporate finance services to clients through his own company CANUS Capital Corporation and previously through Wolrige Mahon, LLP a BC-based CA Firm, as a Senior Vice President in their Corporate Finance Group.

Bill Saltztein
Vice President of Engineering

Bill’s extensive background in technology and medical device design will assist Pyng in developing new solutions for trauma medical care, as well as enhancing the company’s existing product lines. Bill founded Code Blue Communications in 2000 to bring Bluetooth wireless technology to medical and industrial markets. For the past several years, Code Blue has primarily provided consulting services to large and small medical device companies in the areas of program management, technology and product development. In 2006 Bill took 2 years off from Code blue to lead the development of a revolutionary home safety product at LifeTone Safety.

Prior to founding Code Blue Communications, Bill served as Director of Advanced Development at Medtronic Physio-Control in Redmond, WA. Before joining Physio-Control, he led product and business development teams at Instromedix and Hewlett-Packard developing both diagnostic and interventional cardiology equipment for Emergency Medicine and Hospital customers.

Bill holds 20 patents associated with battery-powered and portable medical devices, communications and other technologies. His active professional memberships include AAMI, IEEE, and Bluetooth SIG.

Nicole Ranger, BSc, BASc, PEng
Director of Product Development

A Professional Engineer, Nicole brings over 15 years of experience in managing and developing product lines from concept to market, with over 7 years in the medical device industry. Since joining Pyng Medical, Nicole has led product development and enhancement projects, contributing significantly to Pyng Medical’s first reaching profitability. She is currently directing new product development for next generation products.

Prior to joining Pyng Medical, Nicole held R&D, engineering, project and product management roles in the medical device, sports equipment, and bioengineer industries. She is responsible for developing over a dozen products now in the marketplace and is named in four patents.

Nicole holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Mechanical Engineering) from the University of Toronto as well as a Bachelor of Science (Honours Kinesiology) from the University of Waterloo.

Jon Strong, BSc
Director of Operations

Jon Strong has over 20 years experience working for manufacturing and customer service organizations in both Europe and North America.

During his career he has held senior positions in the quality, operations and engineering fields. As Quality Manager at Dynamic Imaging, he was instrumental in leading the company to obtain one of the first EN46001 accreditations in the world.

Jon holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from the University of Paisley.

Maya Butterfield, BSc, MSc, PhD
Quality Assurance Manager

Dr. Maya Butterfield has been working in the medical device industry for the past 20 years and has been recognized internationally for her work with bioprosthetic heart valves. Maya has experience in research and development, as well as quality assurance and regulatory affairs in both Europe and North America.

Maya has worked with, or consulted for, most major companies in the heart valve industry including CarboMedics, St. Jude Medical and Mitroflow. She obtained ISO 9001 certification for “Medulis,” a contract research and testing facility of medical devices and biomaterials within the Department of Mechanical Engineering, The University of Leeds.

Maya is currently a member of the International Standards Organization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC150) Implants for Surgery, Sub-Committee (SC 2) Cardiovascular Implants and Extracorporeal Systems, Working Group (WG 1) Cardiac Valves. This working group revised the now published ISO 5840:2005 Cardiovascular Implants – Cardiac Valve Prostheses.

Maya holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours, Physiology) from University College Dublin, a Master of Science (Bioengineering) from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Mechanical Engineering) from the University of Leeds.
