Leadership Team

Mark F. Hodge – President & CEO

Mark Hodge is a seasoned medical device professional with over 25 years of experience including almost 20 years at medical company leaders Medtronic and Boston Scientific. Mark has held leadership roles in Marketing, Operations and Engineering. Mark holds a B.S. degree in Materials science and Industrial Engineering and graduate degrees in both Biomedical Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering, as well as an M.B.A. from Boston University.

Colonel (US Army, Retired) Alan Moloff, DO, MPH – Medical Director

Alan Moloff brings over 30 years of operational military medical experience. He is Board Certified in aerospace, undersea and disaster medicine. Col. Moloff’s final assignment encompassed 4 years as Commander of the Defense Medical Readiness Training Institute (DMRTI) where he focused on joint medical readiness, combat casualty care and the medical aspects of Homeland Security planning and training focused on CBRNE and complex disasters.

George Dorin, MSC(ECON), CPA, CA, CF, FCSI - Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Dorin has 30 years of broad-based financial experience, including 15 years as a Corporate Director or CFO for several private and public companies. He holds undergraduate degrees in Science and Accounting from the University of BC, a Masters Degree in Finance from the London School of Economics, and the Diploma FCSI (Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute). A Chartered Accountant, he was also granted a CF (Corporate Finance) specialist designation from the CICA in 2008. Prior to his work in industry, he worked in the financial services sector with Ernst & Whinney (now KPMG), Price Waterhouse, Royal Bank of Canada, and with Pemberton Securities (now RBC Dominion Securities). In 2007 and 2008 he was a Senior VP Corporate Finance at Wolrige Mahon, a BC-based CA Firm. Most recently, he has been providing corporate finance, senior financial management and corporate director (including audit committee chairman) services to several industrial public companies through this own company CANUS Capital Corporation.

Nicole Ranger, BSc, BASc, PEng – Vice President, Engineering and Product Development

A Professional Engineer, Nicole brings over 17 years of experience in managing and developing product lines from concept to market, with over 9 years in the medical device industry. Since joining Pyng Medical, Nicole has led product development and enhancement projects, contributing significantly to Pyng Medical’s first reaching profitability. Prior to joining Pyng Medical, Nicole held R&D, engineering, project and product management roles in the medical device, sports equipment and bioengineer industries. She is responsible for developing over a dozen products now in the marketplace and is named in four patents. Nicole holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Mechanical Engineering) from the University of Toronto as well as a Bachelor of Science (Honours Kinesiology) from the University of Waterloo.

Michele L. Tyler – Vice President of Regulatory Affairs & Quality Assurance

Michele has over 24 years of experience working in the regulated industry providing an extensive array of regulatory and/or quality support to a variety of FDA and ISO regulated companies. For the last 15 years, Michele served in key management leadership roles including Senior Director of Quality and Regulatory for Response Biomedical Corporation, a publicly-traded Canadian in vitro diagnostic company, Director of Quality Operations with Dendreon Corporation, a publicly-traded biotechnology company, and Director of Quality and Regulatory for Cypress Bioscience Inc., a publicly-traded biotechnology company.
Michele has a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences from Western Michigan University.

William von  Brendel - Senior Vice President, Sales (Global Military Business & US, Europe and LAT-AM Markets)

William von Brendel brings over 30 years of worldwide sales, marketing, business development and general management medical device experience to Pyng Medical.  Prior to Pyng, William was EVP, International Sales at Nextremity Solutions, a specialized orthopedic surgical implant start-up where he helped build the company from zero to over $3 million in revenue. Prior to Nextremity, William was VP/GM of Sperian Hearing Protection.  He built his 1,600 employee global business unit to a record $150 million in sales and $60 million in profit. Sperian was acquired by Honeywell for $1.4 Billion.  Previously, William held senior executive positions with Smith + Nephew, Allergan, Zeiss, SulzerMedica and several med-device start-ups.  He is fluent in 4 languages and has resided in 12 countries.  William earned an undergraduate degree in marketing from Indiana University, an MIM in international marketing from Oxford University in England and an MBA from Thunderbird, The Global School of International Management.

CLAUDE NEUNLIST - VICE PRESIDENT, SALES (GLOBAL CIVILIAN BUSINESS & CANADA, ASIA-PACIFIC AND MIDDLE-EAST MARKETS)

Claude Neunlist brings over 20 years of worldwide sales, marketing, business development and medical device experience to Pyng Medical. Prior to Pyng, Claude was Director of International Sales at Camfil Farr, a global air filtration specialist. Prior to Camfil, Claude was Senior Director of International Sales at Triosyn which developed, manufactured and marketed, an antimicrobial agent used in a wide range of applications. He was instrumental in the acquisition of the company by Safe Life Corp in 2006 for $40M. Previously, Claude was in charge of the International Business Development at Positron Public Safety System Inc, where he landed multi-million dollar contracts (like the $9M Hong Kong TGMS), prior to its take-over by Intrado. He also held Senior Sales & Marketing Executive positions for various Canadian high-tech start-ups. He is fluent in English, French and German. Claude earned a Master Degree in Management of International Affairs from the ISEG Business School in Strasbourg, France and also holds a degree in Marketing Techniques from the Institut Universitaire de Technologies in Colmar, France.

Dr. Ronald Blanck – Chairman

Dr. Ronald Blanck is Chairman & Partner of Martin, Blanck & Assoc. He also chairs the Board of Regents for the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). He is the former President of the University of North Texas Health Science at Fort Worth. Dr. Blanck is the former Surgeon General of the US Army & Commander of the US Army Medical Command. Lt. General US Army (Ret.). He also served as Commander of Walter Reed Medical Center North Atlantic Region and was past Governor of the American College of Physicians/American Society of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Blanck is the recipient of numerous military honors and has consulted as an advisor on bioterrorism issues. He also chairs task forces on bioterrorism for both the Texas Medical Association and the American Osteopathic Association.

Herbert Toms III – Director

Mr. Herbert A. Toms III is co-founder of MDR Specialty Distribution Corporation, a wholesale medical supplier distributor with revenues in excess of US$50,000,000 per year. Mr. Toms has been in the medical device supply business for over 12 years. Mr. Toms brings extensive experience and knowledge to Pyng Medical regarding both domestic and international medical device warehousing and distribution.

L.J. “Bud” Evans, Jr. – Director & Chairman, Audit & Finance Committee

Mr. Bud Evans is President and Chief Executive Officer of the SFI Financial Group, Inc. He is Vice Chairman of the Board of Altarum (formerly the Environmental Research Institute of Michigan, the inventor of SAR radar and developer of numerous “Black” technologies), a Board Member of Solutions Design Group, SafeLife Corp., Pixel Velocity, Terra Card Services, Inc., Ex-RAD, and a former Board Chairman of EOTech, Inc. and ART Inc. Mr. Evans served as the Chairman of the White House Cabinet Council on Technology Commercialization, as a Member of National Research Council Applications Board, as the Head of NASA Commercial Technology and as a former Senior Executive at the White House, NASA and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Robert (Bob) Di Silvio – Director

Bob Di Silvio is President of Xtant Medical Inc; a world leading Biologics, Spine and Orthopedic company; prior to this Bob was Senior Vice President of Lumenis North America. Lumenis is the world’s leading Laser and light-based medical products company. Bob previously served in a variety of senior executive positions including President & Chief Executive Officer for Pyng Medical. He also served as Vice President & General Manager with Safe Life Corp, which develops, manufactures and market TriosynTM, an antimicrobial agent used in a wide range of applications. In this role, Bob was responsible for all revenue generated from commercialized product sales, pursuing and negotiating worldwide sales and distributorship contracts as well as facilitating the highest quality of product and customer service to ensure efficiency and maximum profit. Bob served as Vice President of US Field Operations (300M+) for the Physio-Control division of Medtronic, the leading manufacturer of cardiac biomedical devices. In addition to a Masters in Biochemistry and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Organic Chemistry from the University of Connecticut, Bob also completed three years at the University of Rome School of Medicine.

Doctor (Colonel) Alan Moloff – Director

COL (RET) Dr. Alan Moloff, D.O., MPH retired from the Army after 30 years of exemplary service. He has had numerous assignments in Special Forces including the 7th and 10th Special Forces Groups, commander of the Special Operations Medical Training program and Army Special Operations Command. He was the commander of the 212th M.A.S.H., U.S. Army Aeromedical Center and the Defense Medical Readiness Training Institute from July 2002 through January 2006. During this last assignment at DMRTI he was focused on joint medical readiness, combat casualty care and had DOD oversight of the medical aspects of Homeland Security training and education regarding CBRNE and complex disasters. He is the past president of the Special Operations Medical Association, Fellow of the Aerospace Medical Association and American College of Preventive Medicine. He is a founding member of the new American Board of Disaster Medicine. He has faculty appointments at the Medical College of Georgia and is the Senior Medical Officer for the Global Center for Disaster Medicine and Humanitarian Assistance at the University of South Florida. Board Certified in Aerospace, Undersea and Disaster Medicine, Dr. Moloff currently serves as a speaker and consultant for disaster response, medicine, planning, training and education to private industry and government organizations.

Brian Bristol – Senior Managing Director & Head of Investment Banking, W.R. Hambrecht + Co

  • Prior to joining W. R. Hambrecht + Co, he was Managing Director and the Head of Investment Banking at SoundView Technology Group
  • Director and Co-Head of the Technology Investment Banking Group at Salomon Brothers and was Vice President of the Technology Group at First Boston’s investment banking unit
  • Began his career on Wall Street with Smith Barney
  • Received his B.A. from Yale University, and M.A. and Ph.D. from Princeton University, and an M.B.A. from Columbia University

Dr. James J. James, MD, DrPH, MHA – Director of the American Medical Association (AMA) Center for Public Health Preparedness and Disaster Response, and Editor-in-Chief, Disaster Medicine and Public Health Preparedness, an official publication of the American Medical Association

  • 30 years of experience in the public and private health care sectors – as a clinician, researcher, professional personnel manager and program director

W. Craig Vanderwagen, MD, RADM USPHS (Ret) – Senior Partner with Martin, Blanck, and Associates

  • Founding Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response for the US Dept of Health and Human Services
  • 28 years as commissioned officer in the US Public Health Service (USPHS, Dept. of Health and Human Services (HHS)
  • Deployed assignments to disaster environments in LA after Katrina; Indonesia after 2005 tsunami; Iraq; Honduras after 1999 Hurricane Mitch; and Kosovar refugee assistance in 1999
  • The deployments were in addition to his duties in the Indian Health Service, where he held the position as Chief Medical Officer as his last assignment
