MAT™ Used to Save Lives at Virginia Tech Massacre
MAT™ was applied by rescue teams to Kevin Sterne’s leg to both save his life and save his leg.
Mr. Sterne suffered what could have been a fatal wound to his femoral artery in the mass shootings on Monday at Virginia Tech. With his Eagle Scout training, he had fashioned a makeshift tourniquet from electrical cord to stop the bleeding, and when the rescue teams arrived, they rapidly replaced the impromptu tourniquet with MAT™ (shown in insert photo). According to medical personnel (pictured below) on the scene, the tourniquets most likely saved Mr. Sterne’s life.
