David Christie, BSc (Biology), MBA
President and Chief Executive Officer
David Christie is President and Chief Executive Officer of Pyng Medial Corporation, bringing considerable experience in commercializing medical devices. David has over 25 years of sales, marketing, operations, and general management experience in the medical device and high technology industries.
In his most recent role as Chief Executive Officer at InnerVision Medical Technologies Inc., he was instrumental in raising $2 million, assembling an international team of professionals, and leading the development of Flash Ultrasound™ technology. In his previous role as Chief Operations Officer at VSM MedTech Ltd, David was responsible for manufacturing, regulatory, quality assurance, and service of functional brain imaging systems and blood pressure monitors, contributing significantly to the growth of VSM from a company with no revenue and 12 employees to $15 million in revenue and 175 employees.
In prior roles as Executive Vice President and General Manager, David led the engineering and business development initiatives on ground-breaking blood pressure technologies and, prior to that as Vice President Sales and Marketing, successfully launched their proprietary blood pressure monitor (BpTRU™) and established international distribution. David was Vice President and Regional General Manager, BC and Alberta, for Medigas, Canada’s leading respiratory care company. David held increasingly senior management positions with American Hospital Supply, which was acquired by Baxter Corporation, the world’s largest supplier of medical-surgical supplies to hospitals.
David has his Masters in Business Administration from the University of British Columbia, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Montana.
Dave Bonar, B.Comm., MBA
Vice President of Sales and Marketing
Dave Bonar is Vice President of Sales and Marketing of Pyng Medical Corporation, bringing over 20 years of sales, marketing, operational, and general management experience in the diagnostic, therapeutic, and medical device industries.
Prior to joining Pyng, Dave served as CEO and General Manager of PneuMedex Inc. where he led the clinical and commercialization activities of this early-stage medical device company. In his previous role as Director of Sales and Marketing for Response Biomedical Corporation, he led the recruitment, training, and support of their US and international distribution partners in the hospital laboratory, emergency department and EMS markets.
Previously Dave held various senior positions in medical and biomedical companies, including Vancouver Medical Laboratories, Medtronic and Baxter Corporation. In these positions, Dave was responsible for driving significant sales growth in numerous markets. While in these positions, he successfully developed and implemented strategic marketing plans for the introduction of new and innovative diagnostic and therapeutic products and services.
Dave holds a Masters in Business Administration, with distinction, from the Richard Ivey School of Business (University of Western Ontario) and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta.
Steve H. Law, Diplo. T, CMA
Chief Financial Officer
Steve Law joined Pyng Medical Corp. in April 2005 as the controller and was appointed CFO in January 2006. He has over 16 years of progressive experience in finance, administration, and management from a diverse background in retail, distribution, manufacturing, and service industries.
Prior to joining Pyng Medical Corp., Steve was Manager, Finance and Administration with Intercon Security Limited where he was instrumental in recovering over $750,000 from delinquent accounts and successfully restructured and reorganized the finance department. Steve also held an Accounting Manager position with TCG International Inc. where he oversaw 72-76 retail branches and 10-15 administrative branches in the US and Eastern Canada regions. Other roles include Controller with ECS Electrical Cable Supply Ltd and Financial Accountant with Alpha Technologies Ltd.
Steve graduated from BCIT in Financial Management and holds an accounting designation with the Society of Certified Management Accountants (CMA).
Cindy Wells, BA, MA, EMT-P
Director of Education
Certified by the state of Florida as both a paramedic and a professional educator, Cindy has combined two of her greatest passions, education and emergency medical services (EMS), for over 26 years. Her teaching career includes such diverse groups as multiply-handicapped children, visually and hearing impaired adults, undergraduates, graduate students, and university professors. She also served as Florida’s coordinator for the National Association of EMTs Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support program.
Cindy’s EMS experience dates back to 1981 in Daytona Beach with EVAC Ambulance Service and ranges from EMT to lead paramedic for the county’s sole Advanced Life Support provider. She continues caring for patients today in Tampa’s University Community Hospital Emergency Department’s Chest Pain Center.
Jon Strong, BSc
Operations Manager
Jon has recently joined Pyng as their Operations Manager. He brings with him over 20 years experience working for manufacturing and customer service organizations in both Europe and North America.
During his career he has held senior positions in the quality, operations and engineering fields. As Quality Manager at Dynamic Imaging, he was instrumental in leading the company to obtain one of the first EN46001 accreditations in the world. Jon holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from the University of Paisley.
Nicole Ranger, BSc, BASc, PEng
Engineering Manager
Nicole Ranger is Engineering Manager at Pyng Medical and is responsible for all product development, engineering projects, and intellectual property. A Professional Engineer, Nicole brings over 13 years of experience in product development, engineering, process improvement, and project management with over 6 years in the medical device industry. She has been leading product development, enhancements and process improvements; Nicole was on the team that drove Pyng Medical Corporation to profitability.
Nicole holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Mechanical Engineering) from the University of Toronto as well as a Bachelor of Science (Honours Kinesiology) from the University of Waterloo.
Maya Butterfield, BSc (Physiology), MSc (Bioengineering), PhD (Mechanical Engineering)
Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs Manager
Dr. Maya Butterfield has been working in the medical device industry for the last 19 years and has been recognized internationally for her work with bioprosthetic heart valves. Dr. Butterfield has experience in research and development as well as quality assurance and regulatory affairs in both Europe and North America.
Her first experience in the medical device industry was with Autogenics, manufacturers’ of a Class III medical device. Within this small company Dr. Butterfield gained valuable experience in engineering, manufacturing, quality assurance, regulatory affairs and R&D. She has worked with, or consulted for, most major companies in the heart valve industry including CarboMedics, St. Jude Medical and Mitroflow. She has also been instrumental in getting ISO 9001 certification for Medulis, a contract research and testing facility of medical devices and biomaterials within the Department of Mechanical Engineering, The University of Leeds.
Dr. Butterfield is currently a member of the International Standards Organization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC150) Implants for Surgery, Sub-Committee (SC 2) Cardiovascular Implants and Extracorporeal Systems, Working Group (WG 1) Cardiac Valves. This working group recently revised the now published ISO 5840:2005 Cardiovascular Implants - Cardiac Valve Prostheses.
